Submitted by wonderwoman from Boones Mill, VA "We tried the Fortex pole been for the first time in 2008 - this is the first pole bean ever, much easier than a bush bean. We had great results with beans arriving in July and lasting until October without replanting. We froze some and had them this winter. They tasted fantastic! Will plant again and again." |

Submitted by PADutchGardener from Berks Co. PA "If you have planted pole beans before, and had a busy day, the beans take over your garden. My kids love beans and corn. I tried this variety last season because of the Burpee description; I was suprised. I have a suburban garden and planted 16 square feet with this plant. It does not grow over 2", but produces and produces. The flavor and texture is wonderful. I can't quite say how much I grew from what I gave away fresh, and then gave away blanched because I ran out of freaser room. I have enough after all of that for most of the winter. I know that I will be planting a whole section of my garden with this varitey next year!" |

Submitted by Overachievinggardener from Humboldt, TN "When I saw these in Burpee's catalogue, I knew I had to order them. Shortly after I had received the seeds, I planted them. Because of their size, these were the easiest seeds I have ever planted. Some were even the size of a quarter! I had good germination and the seedlings were healthy. I would strongly recommend growing these on a trellis or a wire stock panel-the vines are very long. The plants produced beautiful leaves and vines during their growing season. Once, what I call the "critical point", was achieved, the vines started making male and female flowers. The beans developed, most being 5-6 inches long, and filled out-I think I would have gotten longer ones if it weren't for the drought we had, but I did have several that were about 7 inches long. Shelling was easy and they tasted great. These were the first lima beans I had ever grown, and I plan on including them in my garden next year." |

Submitted by bstnh1 from Southern New Hampshire "This bean is great - it is a heavy yielder, has great flavor and is totally stringless. It is not, however, as easy to harvest as the description would have you believe. These beans are very well attached to the plant and you cannot just yank them off. To avoid damaging the plant and immature beans, you must hold onto the plant near the bean's stem and then pull the bean off." |

Submitted by leifler from Southern Indiana "This is the second year that I have planted Eureka Yellow Bush Beans. Both years they have produced a tremendous quantity of delicious beans. You can pick them by the handful. They are beautiful in the glass mason jars. I will always plant this variety of bean. I don't know how any other variety could be better!" |

Submitted by sddcgardenguy from Eastern South Dakota "The "Eureka" beans are truly amazing! I planted these at a similar time to the "Greencrop" beans. They were a week slower to harvest, but since then wow! These guys keep putting on the beans! These two varieties have been truly awesome! The overall height of the plant is a bit smaller than other beans plants and tend to be a bit top-heavy, however, this hasn't diminished the gigantic yield at all. As long as I pick, they keep producing. I have about 25' of these and have picked approx. 10 pounds. Definately more next year! The beans seem to hold well once they reach their perfect picking length. The plants also seem to be rather resistant to disease. Bring these back next year Burpee!" |

There are recipes and directions online--it took many hours at a low temperature. I am growing more this year and just hope I have more time to shell them--very tedious!" |

Submitted by CAGardener from Northern CA "Last year was my first time with these beans, and they are fantastic. Great production and the beans kept coming well into August. The color also was a big hit with my neighbors, as they had never seen purple beans before. My only complaint is that they seem to rot in the ground more than the regular green beans do under similar conditions. All-in-all, though, well worth planting." |
