Beautiful Hollyhock Blooms in PA, June 27, 2008
Submitted by  Charity  from Central PA

"I live in Central PA, and I planted this Hollyhock mix last year. The plants have performed beautifully in full sun and in dry clay soil! Of the 4 Hollyhocks I have planted, there is one each of magenta, yellow and pink. The fourth is about to bloom so I am hoping it is white! :-)"

Favorite flower!, June 9, 2008
Submitted by SoupAddict from Cincinnati, OH

"Sunflowers are my favorite flowers, and the Teddy Bear is tops of the tops. My sunflowers are already taking off, providing gorgeous blooms, and am looking forward to a beautiful summer of enjoying these babies. The seeds were easy to start and the plants have been healthy and strong. This is my first year growing them, but their performance thus far has already guaranteed them a spot in the garden next year!"

Must have for hummingbirds, June 3, 2008
Submitted by Golf from Michigan

"I bought and started growing this 2 years ago. Unlike a lot of plants labeled "attracts hummingbirds", this really does! Of all the different plants in my hummingbird garden last year, this was the only plant I saw a hummingbird check out. So much for the myth that hummingbirds are only attracted to red flowers! Has beautiful flowers and beautiful rich green foliage. With regular watering you'll have a small bush by fall. Very easy to grow! Seems to prefer morning sun and late-afternoon/evening shade. The only downsides are it's an annual and where I live, the brick and mortar nurseries that carry it are very limited (as in ONE, but only IF they get it in!)"

Gorgeous - Even in Part-Shade, April 7, 2008
Submitted by Mxstressica from Ellicott City, MD

"The plants grew tall and strong in no time, and didn't bow in the rain. The ones I had on the porch had longer-lasting blooms because I watered them from the bottom... the rain makes the blossoms a tiny bit slimy and faded when the plant isn't in full sun to dry out quickly, but the flower display doesn't really suffer because of it. The color is light and gorgeous, and it really brightens up an area that has partial shade. Be sure to use some kind of slug prevention... they LOVE this plant."

Huge Beautiful Flowers, April 7, 2008
Submitted by Mxstressica from Ellicott City, MD

"The flowers begin to bloom at dusk and positively GLOW at night they are so pure white. Once they really got started in the Summertime, we had flowers as big as dessert plates and several came out at a time each evening. The leaves are larger and deep green and the flowers are much larger than a morning glory. The leaves and flowers are too large to fully enjoy on a small trellis - the vine looks best trained along a big fence or a large metal gate / garden structure. It is also nice when it can be planted with other plants in front of it... it gets a little sparse at the bottom because it sends out the majority of the vines toward the top of the plant."

The Legacy of W. Atlee Burpee

The Burpee company was founded in Philadelphia in 1876 by an 18 year-old with a passion for plants and animals and a mother willing to lend him $1000 dollars of "seed money" to get started in business. Within 25 years he had developed the largest, most progressive seed company in America. By 1915 we were mailing a million catalogues a year to America's gardeners.

Excellent Butterfly Plant, March 18, 2008
Submitted by dontneedanickname from Michigan

"I ordered a packet of this seed years ago, and it has grown back beautifully and faithfully - and BIGGER - every year since. I host scores of butterflies and watch lots of caterpillars grow on the many huge plants I have from just one packet of seed. The plants are so prolific that there are plenty of leaves for the caterpillars to munch, and it never looks "munched on." If you want to add plants that enhance your yard and add to the butterfly population, this is an excellent choice -- and this is the only place I've seen this variety."

"The huge blooms are larger than any other French marigold out there. The first flower bed I saw of these were planted in a damp, cool, rainy area and they still were a sea of pure color, there were so many blooms on each plant. The tight petals and the striking combination of orange and golden yellow really stands out."

Amazing Plant!, March 5, 2008
Submitted by starrlight from Baton Rouge, LA

"This plant is great, I accidentally broke one in to several pieces and stuck them in water to enjoy them while I could - Ended up with many plants! They grow approximately 3' tall and 3' wide and tolerate just about any sun and/or soil condition. They work as beautiful filler or backdrop for landscape beds!"

HUGE flowers, March 2, 2008
Submitted by Montana from Montana

"Last year I thought I was planting regular dahlia bulbs and in a few weeks these hugs stalks were growing and I had no idea what they were, but I stuck with them just to see what would become of them.
2 months after planting they started to bloom and the largest flowers I've ever grown appeared. We would cut them and place in water inside and more and more would bloom.
This isn't just a one flower then die flower. They keep flowering all summer.
I highly recommend them and can't wait until Spring comes so I can plant more!"

Crazy about them!, February 21, 2008
Submitted by blondemamaof2 from Lanark,IL

"I purchased the seeds, and decided to get a head start. So, I grew them in my living room. That is the first time I have ever tried it, instead of just planting the seed outside. I couldn't believe how easy they were to grow!! I had no trouble with them in any way. When they were big enough, I transplanted them outside. They grew bigger then what the package stated. The colors were exactly what they were supposed to be, a whole mix. They tolerated the hot summer & the strong winds we get (we live on top a hill, by an open field). The butterflies were crazy about them!! We saw butterflies we have never seen before! My daughter loves them & the butterflies, so we we plant them every year & add more to the other side of our garden. Definatley buy these if you want a butterfly garden & a lot of rich beautiful color. Not to mention how hardy & easy they are to grow & keep!!"

Excellent Product!, February 10, 2008
Submitted by GardeningGuru from Upstate, SC

"I've been gardening for well over 10 years and I have found this product to be an asset in my gardening supply. For the beginner to the expert it's an amazing product. If you're serious about seed starting as I am you may want to purchase a temperature regulator for this mat along with any others. The speed in germination is awesome and it works very well with growing on seedlings. I have 6 of these mats I use for seed starting and even use them in my greenhouse during the cold winter months to help regulate temperatures of my vegetables."
