Germination Galoire!, August 24, 2008
Submitted by eaglover from Tuxedo, NY

"Since I start my seeds in a cold basement in winter, I decided to purchase the 48" x 20 3/4" seedling heat mat in Winter 2008 to see if it would help with faster and more effective germination. The mat worked beautifully! I have never had such success in seed germination before using this mat. I was able to squeeze four mats and part of a fifth onto the mat (rotating them all from time to time to equalize time on the mat). Within 48 hours, about 50% of my seeds had started sprouting. By the end of a week, a total of about 85% of my seeds had begun germinating. Many of these seeds were two to three years old, and I hadn't had much success with them in previous years (even when I first bought them). I thought the seeds were just of poor quality. When it was time for planting in the spring, my plants were stronger and larger than any others at that time during previous years. I always start my seeds and plant my plants at the same times every year, including this past year when I used the heat mat. I did not measure the temperature difference between flats on the mat and flats not on the mat, but I could definitely feel the temperature difference when I put my hand under the heated flats. These flats were definitely much warmer than the ambient air in the basement. I did not use a temperature regulator, but germination was still quite successful. Adding a little heat using this mat solved a lot germination problems for me. I would recommend getting a seedling heat mat to anyone who starts seeds in a cooler room or basement. If you start a lot of seeds, purchasing the largest mat is definitely worth the price!"

wow, this is great!, July 14, 2008
Submitted by LabGrrl from Western New York

"I have used this so far this season for snow peas, pole beans and morning glories and WOW! I have never been so happy with a trellis. I left mine fairly loose, so it could be easily manipulated, and I have not snagged a bird or had a pea or bean stuck in an impossible to reach corner, yet."

Excellent Product, May 12, 2008
Submitted by lachicachiva from Nashville, TN

"Pots were easy and fun to make. It took very little practice to achieve consistent and solid results. I was worried about how well the pots would hold up under germination conditions, but they have done very well and survived the two months to transplant time. The only difficulty was getting the potting soil into the pots since they are not stiff enough to scoop with. Because of the shape it is not efficient to pour in soil (you lose a lot to the spaces between the round pots) so next year I will use a scoop and/or wide funnel to facilitate that step."

Outstanding, May 12, 2008

"I purchased a couple of pairs of the salmon gloves last year. Wow! they fit. I have small hands and most of the gloves that I have purchased in the past were a bit too big. I love these gloves, I wear the fingers out after two and a half months. So now, I try to purchase enough for the long summer and fall gardening in Ga. They wear very well for pulling weeds, carrying tree limbs and even working in the garden after a rain."

Not just for cold protection, May 4, 2008
Submitted by Timothy from Southwest Oklahoma

"Wall-o-waters can allow for earlier planting as advertised, however, they serve their best purpose as a physical barrier and protector of plants. I would use them even if I planted after the last frost. Animals won't trample plants. Wind won't bother plants. I use them in conjunction with classic three ring metal stakes and burpee tomato cages and have never had a plant die for any reason prior to October. You'll want to use paper or mulch for weed prevention because you can't weed easily once the plant reaches a certain size."

Heavy crop and excellent flavor, , February 26, 2008
Submitted by MrGreenGenes from Central Missouri

"Wouldn't plant any other variety. These are sugar sweet even after being frozen for 6-8 months. When the vines start producing you will need to pick them twice per week. I plant two rows about a foot apart and trelless them on 4' wire fabric fence. Makes picking very easy and keeps the vines healthy. Use the "booster" Burpee sells for peas/beans or buy bean "innoculant" from a farm supply store."

Excellent Product!, February 10, 2008
Submitted by GardeningGuru from Upstate, SC

"I've been gardening for well over 10 years and I have found this product to be an asset in my gardening supply. For the beginner to the expert it's an amazing product. If you're serious about seed starting as I am you may want to purchase a temperature regulator for this mat along with any others. The speed in germination is awesome and it works very well with growing on seedlings. I have 6 of these mats I use for seed starting and even use them in my greenhouse during the cold winter months to help regulate temperatures of my vegetables."

A Hummingbird Favorite, October 17, 2007
Submitted by KJHummer

"I first saw this salvia at my local garden center. It was being visited by a hummingbird moth at the time. I was really drawn to the red flower spikes and obviously the moth was, too. I grabbed two six packs of it and fit them into spots all around my foundation in hopes I would draw the hummingbirds and butterflies close to the house. It definately worked! Plus the plants grew and thrived despite unseasonably hot, dry weather. In fact, they are blooming even now-the middle of October in Ohio and have survived several light frosts with no ill-effects. They appear to be readily self seeding-as I have found them showing up in between the stones on my walkway. I just let them bloom as they will. Hopefully they will make a return next season and bring the hummingbirds with them!"

Bounty in a Cage, June 11, 2007
Submitted by Oldthumbs from Northern Illinois

"I have finally found the answer to my tomato support problem. I've used stakes and have made my own tomato cages before, but I have to admit that nothing I tried has been as easy to use, has lasted as long, or has been as easy to store in the off season as these cages.

For indeterminate tomato varieties, it's almost a necessity to get the extenders, or an additional cage that you can stack on top of the first cage. I also use tent stakes to help hold the cages to the ground. While they may not be absolutely necessary, I'm a belt and suspenders type of guy.

Now that I've used these tomato cages, I would hate to have to go back to other methods."

Great product!, June 4, 2007
Submitted by Katie

"These product is just wonderful. My husband, who is hard to impress, thought the quality was superb. He was able to build the planter (with coaching from me, of course :) in about an hour.
Since I wasn't sure how it would all work, and if it would be of high quality, I only bought enough for one planter, but now I'm going to buy enough to really expand my garden.
Thank you, Burpee!"

super water saver,May 11, 2007
Submitted by homesteadweaver

"I especially like using Soil Moist outdoors in flower boxes and hanging baskets. When we have a dry spell, it keeps the containers from parching. It's like little plastic pellets in the jar and it swells to a Jello-like substance when it's wet. I've also seen it used in jars without soil. I'm sold on it."
