Submitted by Chestnut from Northwest, OH "I got great lettuce out of this packet! I sowed a row every two weeks and am still getting lots of lettuce from the older rows. I was disappointed my lettuce blend doesn't look like the picture though: I got Crispy Frills, Royal Oak Leaf and Salad Bowl just fine; Lollo Rossa was a very slow grower and leaves got never got bigger than 2"--they were also green with reddish brown near the edge not the deep red that's in Burpee's picture . My perfect Little Caesar romaine was smooth leaved vs. the bumpy leaves in Burpee's picture. I don't think I got any Matchless. Anyhoo, this is still easy to grow and provides lots of mild flavor for salads and sandwiches, etc." |

It bloomed that summer and every year after that. Because I live in Fl. it spreads it's own seeds and comes up every year thicker and more beautiful then the year before. It's like a sprinkle of lush red flowers dotting a blanket of green feathery foliage draping over my fence. It's just beautiful." |

Just harvested enough today (June 7) for dinner from a planting done in mid-April. I also like the fact that this is a dwarf version, as I can combine it with other veggies in my raised beds and not have too much trouble with the vines shading my other plants. You have to try this pea!" |

Submitted by CAGardener from Northern CA "I used to grow this variety years ago, and found that they were very suseptable to powdery mildew. After seeing them last year (2007) in the Burpee catalog I thought I would give them another try, and boy, am I glad I did! No problems with mildew this time, and what a producer. Great mild taste (just like I remembered), and I had cukes through the end of September. I planted them again this year (2008) and the vine is doing well even with our unusually cool early summer weather. I recommend that you grow these on a trellis/fence as it just makes it easier to see and pick the fruits once the plant starts producing (I use tomato cages for my cukes and have no trouble at all with them). All-in-all I would go ahead and give this unusual looking cuke a try." |

It is one of the few herbs that really needs to be used fresh, so I agree that you should plant some every few weeks so it is ready when you are. Cilantro reseeds itself readily; all of the little seeds at the end of the season will be plants next year. I think it changes personality when cooked, so try it many different ways." |

Submitted by Peonyguy from Massachusetts "I have grown this corn for at least 20 years. Unlike the modern "supersweets" this corn will germinate in cold soil. Even if planted too early (even before the last light frost), I find that the seed will lay there in the ground , and not rot out. It comes up when it is ready, and well before any other sweet corn that I know. The plants are short, so it does not compete well with weeds. Because it sets ears so quickly, weed control and fertility are very important if you want full size ears. If the weeds get ahead of you, the resulting small ears taste just as good, but you need to eat a lot of them to get your fill. Because this is not a supersweet, it does not keep well, on the plant or in the refrigerater. It does not ripen very evenly, so a block of 4 or 5 short rows should keep you going for a week or so. Try to cook it within an hour of picking." |

Here in Maryland, about midway between Baltimore and DC, I get my first ripe Early Girls a little before July 15, about six weeks after the weather gets "Summery" around here. Side by side with Celebrity and Rutgers and a few other varieties, Early Girl always gives ripe tomatoes 2 weeks sooner. (I've started the seeds indoors around March 1st for the past four years) This year I got confused and over excited, and started my seeds on January 24, 2008, and they are ridculously advanced, i have two 2 inch diameter Early Girl tomatoes already! (May 28, 2008) I'll be eating a tomato by June 15 this year, Yum Yum!So always grow at least one Early Girl, because: Ripens 2 weeks earlier than other good tasting tomatoes Will grow well in 14 inch pots on a South East facing patio with about 7 hours of direct sunlight (that's how I grow 'em, less than optimal conditions) I tried "4th of July" variety one year, they ripen even earlier, but I didn't like the flavor at all." |

It tastes better than most mid and late season tomatoes, produces more tomatoes, and never stops until frost. The fruits are not as large as others, but the flavor and the quantity make up for their smaller size. No, in most places, 4th July tomatoes won’t be ready for picking on the 4th. Here is Chicago, it has been so cold, I won’t be planting until I get these plants in early June. Normally, we get our first 4th of July tomatoes in mid July. That is not too long a wait for me. We grow other tomatoes (Celebrity, Beefsteak types), but the wait is so long, the 4th of July tomatoes really insure a long tomato-eating season." |

Not only are they the most proliflict summer squash I have ever grown but the taste is superb! I average 15 to 25 fruit per plant. I harvest from late June until September. If you like them fried, baked, steamed or grilled they are perfect! They are excellent for zuchini bread as well. For my money ten times better then the standard dark green zuke. I grow many vegetables and fruit. I love them all. If I had to only choose one to grow for the rest of my life it would be the sweet gourmet summer squash. Hands down the best....." |

The fruit is slender and long, almost a foot. They are easily sliced into grilling thickness. A little olive oil, pepper and salt is all they need for grilling, and they are delicious! The fruit is plentiful with relatively few and small seeds. Highly recommended." |

Last year i grew it in rather poor soil mixed with some organic miracle grow garden soil and it did well....so well that deer and rabbits ate just about all of it to the ground! I managed to save a few leaves and made a very herby and delicious tea from them. This year i'm putting my lemon basil in a planter, far away from nature's little theives! This basil is excellent for those who love to cook exotic asian dishes." |

Planted in loosened compost and top soil mixed with a hit of Miracle Grow, caged in standard tomato cages & watered via drip irrigation every other day or when I remembered. They were fantastic! Sweet and more like baby romas than cherries - being on the dry-side is a plus to me. We picked an average of 40 a day every day throughout the summer until late-September. These are the only cherry/grape tomatoes that I'll have in the garden." |

It was just about time to pull out my winter tomatoes and put in the spring plants when I recieved this product in the mail. I had been fairly disappointed with the winter plants and had decided to go with a different type this spring. Being new to gardening, I go by the "live and learn" motto. On a whim, I sprayed the sickly looking plants with this product and in about 10 days they had revived and had so much new growth on them that I decided to put a hold on the spring replanting and wait and see what happened. That was about 8 weeks ago and this morning I had to dig through massive folliage to harvest tomatoes ranging from 9 to 19.5 ounces. Now those are some big tomatoes even by South Texas standards. I have used "Sea Magic" on just about everything in my garden and I have yet to be disappointed by it as I have seen average plants grow into monsters and sickly plants bounce back to health. I am having to give away my Herbs because I haven't got the time to process them at the same rate that they are growing and it is still April. If you are on the fence about spending the money to try out this product... Do it!! If you know of a budding gardener or even one that is an expert get this product for them and they will be absolutly thrilled with the results." |
